Indian Land is an unincorporated community in the northernmost part of Lancaster County along the South Carolina-North Carolina border. This major suburb of Charlotte enjoys laid-back living just minutes from it all.

Indian Land is primarily a residential community, but residents may access a myriad of attractions within the area. Nearby neighborhoods, including Fort Mill, Ballantyne, and Blakeney, provide a variety of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues for the Indian Land community. Lancaster County boasts many historical landmarks including Andrew Jackson State Park, the Waxhaw Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, and Kilburnie, the oldest standing residence.

Public schools in Indian Land include Indian Land Elementary, Harrisburg Elementary, Indian Land Middle School, and Indian Land High School. There are no private schools located in Indian Land, but residents may access a number of options in nearby communities, particularly in Ballantyne. There are no institutions of higher learning in Indian Land. However, there are a variety of colleges and universities nearby, including Winthrop University in Rock Hill, Wingate University in Ballantyne, and a number of institutions in Charlotte.
History
For hundreds of years, the Catawba Indians occupied the land that is now Lancaster County. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the early 1750s, settling between Rum Creek and Twelve Mile Creek. The county was formed in 1785, and it was originally part of the Camden District. There is an effort underway to incorporate the town of Indian Land into a municipality to give it a voice on both the local and state levels. This will ideally control the growth of the town while preserving the charm of this previously rural area.
